Komenského sady

A part of the history of Czech-Republic

During my visit to Ostrava, I discovered a very pleasant park called Komenského sady. It is a quiet and green place that offers a beautiful view of the Ostravice river. While strolling in the park, I was amazed by the beauty of nature that surrounded me. But what fascinated me the most was the statue of Jan Amos Comenius, a 17th-century Czech educator.

There is also a Red Army statue in the park which is another impressive example of public art and monumental sculpture. This imposing structure is five meters high and depicts a Red Army soldier in combat uniform. It is a poignant reminder of the city's history and of the Red Army's contribution to the liberation of Ostrava in 1945.

Komenského sady park also offers many recreational facilities, such as a children's playground, a picnic area and a bandstand which Czech students said to us that it hosts outdoor concerts during the summer months. For sports as we did ( playing football ), there are several green spaces where you can work out while enjoying the natural beauty of the park or you can also just take a pause in your life.

Then I ate in the restaurant Sklep u Tomáše in Ostrava where I had the opportunity to taste this local dish and I must say that I was amazed. The smažák I ordered was perfectly crispy on the outside and melty on the inside (it's cheese), with a creamy and tasty texture. The cheese used in this dish was top notch, imparting a rich and intense flavor to every bite. I highly recommend this dish to lovers of Czech cuisine, as well as the restaurant Sklep u Tomáše, where I was able to discover this delicious specialty.

Finally, for those looking to learn more about the history and culture of the region, there are two museums located near the park: the Ostrava City Art Museum and the Mining Museum of Ostrava coal. They are both interesting places to visit and worth including in your itinerary if you plan to come to Ostrava. Moreover on the site there is an article about the museum of the coal mine!
